Overtown Musicians
This project named I Played Here is a personal series featuring Musicians from Overtown Miami. Overtown was once considered the Harlem of the South. With fantastic nightclubs where some of the biggest names in music would routinely play. In the '60s, the I-95 highway was built literally on top of Overtown, and a vibrant middle-class African American neighborhood disappeared. Today it is a shell of its former self. Where once there were hip nightclubs and restaurants today, there are empty lots. These images in the series are of different musicians from the '30s through the '70s who performed in Overtown. The photos shot in the vacant lots where once these musicians played.
